Oushak carpets are Turkish carpets that use a design called after the city of Usak. The city was a major city of rug production from the early days of the Ottoman empire into the 20th century. In the end of the 19th century the European market became interested in Persian carpets and because there were not enough weavers they turned to neighboring villages and the craftsmen who still maintained traditional techniques. The rugs are known for their silky, luminous wool. They are distinguished by their dyes, colors, textures and the different techniques. Their common dyes are cinnamons, terracotta, gold, blue, green, ivory, saffron and gray. They have to major designs, floral patterns and decorative patterns.
