Unique black Art Deco Chinese Oriental rug.

This beautiful Oriental rug is knotted by hand. It is made by wool as it has excellent durability and can easily be dyes with all natural colors. Chinese carpets were woven almost exclusively for internal consumption. It was not until the 19th century that they began to export their rugs. In fact, when this happened they began to produce more decorative rugs as this was more appealing to their buyers. The centuries-old Chinese textile industry is rich in history. While most antique carpets are classified according to a specific region, scholars attribute the age of any specific rug to the ruling emperor of the time. The earliest examples of the craft were from the time of Ch’ung Chen, who was the last emperor of the Chen Dynasty.

Oriental rugs are made in an area that stretches from Morocco across North Africa, the Middle East and into Central Asia and northern India. People from all over the place with very different beliefs are involved in the production of these rugs. Typically, hand woven rugs are made by knotting strings of thread individually into the warps, cutting the thread after each single knot. The fabric if stabilized by weaving in more string of weft and tightened by beating with a comb. It’s a very detailed process that requires much time, dedication and imagination.

This particular rug is quite simple yet holds such an elegant feeling. It has an all-black background with a few bamboo plants. There are also two butterflies with red and blue colored wings, making them outstanding. This is a beautiful rug for any room, it is vintage yet very contemporary and will go great with any style.
