It is made of new wool also known as virgin wool meaning it has never been used. The needlepoint used is a simple tent stitch that relys on the colored changes in the yarn to create the design. The combination of natural wool and the stitching creates a long lasting and durable thread. The roots of needlepoint go back to the ancient Egyptians who used small stitches to sew up their tents. However this practice was adopted my many other cultures over time. This technique can be used not only for wool but for silk and cotton as well.

In this rug we can see the base color chosen was chestnut. It is not quite red or burgundy but it isn’t brown either its somewhere in between. That is the beauty of the natural dyes, they are quite unique every time. There is also a blue strip that goes all around the edge. Ivory is used around the flowers as delicate leaves, as well as some feathers. The flowers have a salmon shade of pink and a pale shade of pink. On some of the leaves there is two greens, an olive and a lighter shade, almost lime green. There are a few leaves that are ocean and baby blue. All these colors combine together creating this extraordinary motif.
