This beautiful Afghan Rug is handwoven from 100% wool from the local sheep herds. The rugs are mostly made in northern and western Afghanistan by many ethnic groups. They can be used for decorative purposes or in many cases as prayer rugs. Kilim have been produced since ancient times dating to at least the fourth or fifth century CE. They are weaved tightly to create a flat surface with no pile. The motif for each rug varies. This one express a more tribal design, with outstanding colors. In each diamond there is a Scorpion or Akrep motif which is a symbol of protection. It being in a diamond could also represent an eye. This would be to ward off or scare the evil eye. Thus meaning their designs are often derived from their cultures or beliefs. They use their imagination in the making of each one.
The wool the workmen use is hand dyed in all natural coloring. They use local vegetables and flowers depending on the results they want to have. This makes the colors long lasting, unlike synthetic dye that will often fade.
Here we see two kinds of blue, red, grey and pink. On the left and right or vertical edge there is an ivory fringe and four stripes; black, pink, blue and red. On the top and bottom or horizontal edge there is a black stripe. Separating the outline or the rug from the inner pattern. On the All around the carpet there is a zigzag design with blue and pink. The background is a vibrant red that combines well with all the colors.
This truly is a one of a kind masterpiece. A tribal and vintage work of art. Its vibrant colors go well with any look. It makes a great addition to any room adding a vintage yet contemporary look. Its long-lasting so it can be passed down to different generations in your family.
