An Oriental rug is a heavy textile, made for a wide variety of usage and symbolic purposes. They can be made from different material including silk and cotton but this one is made of wool. They come in all sizes, from room-sized to animal decorations and prayer rugs. Since the Middle Ages Oriental rugs have been an integral part of their cultures of origin as well as in Europe and North America. They are made in what is referred to as the ‘Rug Belt’ which includes China, Tibet, Turkey, and Iran. This means people from different backgrounds such as, religions and racial groups, are all involved in the making of such masterpieces. It is likely that the pile-woven carpet developed from one of the extra-weft wrapping weaving techniques and was first woven by settled people. The technique later evolved separately at different places and times into what became the ‘Rug Belt’. Over the time they became a more valued and treasured part of their art.
They use local sheep’s wool for the material and only use natural dyes for the coloring. This rug utilizes a soft pink as the main color. It has a dark ivory fringe on both ends and a blue border that goes all the way around. It has different blues on the floral design along with a touch of white and a bit of pink. Overall it gives it a very soft an delicate look, though its materials allow it to be long lasting and quite durable. It can make an excellent addition to any room. Its a traditional yet outstanding piece of artwork and its unique characteristics will never go out of style.
